Consultation Services

Dr Bruhn offers a variety of consultation services, as do the associates
(who also have their own fee schedules).

Sample interpretations of memories: If you would like some help with a few of your memories, or perhaps you want to see if you want to have a full procedure interpreted, try having me interpret any three of your memories. Click on sample interpretation and we'll get started. I will provide precis interpretations for these memories and offer a one paragraph summary of the issues that you appear to be working on, based upon these memories. If this information seems helpful, you may want to consider a full interpretation of your protocol, which will get into more detail, or you may want to work on your own, which could include reading some additional material on the site or in References.

Interpretation of your Early Memories Procedure: Once you have purchased your Early Memories Procedure (click - ONLINE BOOKSTORE -), and completed it, you may want to consult with me about your protocol. I occasionally undertake a full interpretation of a protocol (see References, Bruhn 1990 a, pp. 132-141, or 1992 b for examples), which may give you more information than you need, but most people prefer a summary interpretation, which will focus on the most important data from throughout the protocol. If you have access to Bruhn 1990 a (see References), turn to pp. 140-41; what I will provide will be a summary of issues and a synthesis of issues, as given in the sample protocol. The written report will be fairly short, but it will hone in on what you most need to know.

Interpretation of Supplementary Procedures: After I have completed at least a summary interpretation of your Early Memories Procedure, I can help you with your supplementary procedures (click - ONLINE BOOKSTORE - to order). The supplementary procedures include: Memories of Mother, Memories of Father, Memories of Spouse, and Romantic Relationships Procedure.

Individual Psychotherapy: Sessions ordinarily take place in my Bethesda office, although special appointments and phone times can sometimes be arranged. I will make an Early Memories Procedure (EMP) available after the initial visit. The EMP is then interpreted during the second session so we can clarify, from the beginning, the kind of work that needs to be done. Supplementary procedures (MOM, MOF, MOS, RRP) are completed as needed.

Fees: 45 minute session: $110 (some sliding scale available)
90 minute session: $220 (mostly used for interpretives or for intensive work)
  • Hours: Normally, 3-9 p.m., but special arrangements can be made.

  • Couples Work: The same fee arrangements apply as for individual psychotherapy, but normally I work in 90 minute sessions. I ask that each partner undertake an Early Memories Procedure before they complete a Memories of Spouse; this information will clarify what each partner is bringing to the relationship (EMP) and what history has been created with the partner as a result (MOS). Interpretative work on both procedures is done in session for both partners and recorded so that participants can take the tapes home and review them.

  • Family Therapy and Child and Adolescent Work: We have a well-stocked playroom on site and a one-way mirror. I originally trained at Duke to do child and adolescent work and, of course, family therapy. I can do play therapy with younger children, if needed, but at this point I prefer in most cases to train parents, as soon as is feasible, to do the kind of work themselves that I do with their children.

  • Questions Regarding CP or EMP Related Research from Thesis or Dissertation Students or Professors: I gladly provide consultation at no charge as a courtesy. I can also occasionally serve as an outside committee member. You can reach me by e-mail (arbruhn@arbruhn.com) or leave a message on my voice mail (301-654-2017).

  • Organizationally Sponsored Workshops: I regularly offer workshops to universities, mental health clinics, and other mental health groups. Some years The Society for Personality Assessment sponsors them (low cost and convenient for assessment people). Unless these are within driving distance from the Washington, DC area, we need to think about at least a two month lead time. Standard topics include: How To Interpret Autobiographical Memories (or the EMP), Brief Focused Insight Oriented Memory Therapy, and Using the Comprehensive Memory Scoring System. Custom workshops to fit your needs can be arranged. I encourage organizers to provide a volunteer for clinical demonstration purposes. To arrange, contact me through the sign up sheet in Schedule of Upcoming Workshops and Seminars.

  • Local Workshops: We will be offering local workshops on the preceding topics. For more information, and to sign up, go to Schedule of Upcoming Workshops and Seminars.
